The Universe - Saturn Lord of the Rings

©Ring Rider by AlanGutierrezArtPainting shows the Cassini orbiter probe, which was launched in October 1997 with the European Space Agency's Huygens probe.

Here, it is shown passing into Saturn's rings. Later, the Huygens probe landed on Titan (2005), and increased our knowledge of Saturn's largest moon.

Cassini completed it's first mission in 2008, and has continued new missions since, extending through 2017.

Today on Far Future Horizons we explore the planet Saturn, the real Lord of the Rings  in another exciting episode of The Universe.

Are the rings of Saturn a real celestial phenomenon or merely a cosmic Illusion? Technology allows the experts to get closer to the furthest planet visible to the naked eye.

Saturn and its Moons and Ring System

Old questions are answered and new ones arise. Does Saturn hold the key to Earth’s weather and will one of its moons supply us with all the oil we’ll ever need?

The Universe is available on DVD from and the History Channel’s online store.
