Today on Far Future Horizons we join renowned explorer Robert
Ballard on an underwater odyssey, which follows the famed oceanographer
as he explores the darkest reaches of the ocean to better understand the role
it played in the formation of continents and in the origins of life itself.
His journey
begins at the summit of Hawaii’s Mauna Kea volcano, which stands at 13,800 feet above sea
level. He then descends 19,700 feet into the deep, exploring the diverse ecosystems
along the way.
