Today on Far Future Horizons we present will be exploring the Alien Seas and Oceans of our Solar System with today’s feature videos.
First, we present another instalment
of the acclaimed BBC documentary Horizon.
In this episode of “Horizon” we embark on an odyssey that
will take us on a grand tour of the Oceans of Our Solar System.
Then we will explore the depths of
Kraken Mare on Saturn’s moon Titan in a submarine designed to explore liquid
methane seas.
So prepare to take a dive into the
Alien Oceans of the distant worlds of our Solar System.
I also encourage our readers to read “Alien Seas: Oceans in Space” Edited by
Michael Carroll and Rosaly Lopes which is available from Amazon Books.
BBC Horizon ~ Oceans of the Solar System
BBC Horizon: Oceans of the Solar System
The oceans define the earth. They are crucial to life, and we used to think that they were unique to our blue planet. But we were wrong.
It has recently been discovered that there are oceans all over our solar system, and they are very similar to our own. And now scientists are going on an epic journey in search of new life in places that never seemed possible. NASA is even planning to dive to the depths of a strange, distant ocean in a remarkable submarine.
Horizon discovers that the hunt for oceans in space is marking the dawn of a new era in the search for alien life.
Titan Submarine: Exploring the Depths of Kraken Mare
What would a submarine to explore the
liquid methane seas of Saturn's Moon Titan look like? This video shows one
submarine concept that would explore both the shoreline and the depths of this
strange world that has methane rain, rivers and seas!
The design was developed
for the NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) Program, by NASA Glenn's
COMPASS Team, and technologists and scientists from the Applied Physics Lab and
submarine designers from the Applied Research Lab.
