The World of 2116 - The World in the Next 100 Years

Underwater cities, drone holidays, Mars colonies and printed food – Welcome to 2116

Today on Far Future Horizons we are going to take a glimpse at our world one hundred years from now.

The year of 2116 will be one in which cities will get busier, meaning buildings will get taller, while underground and underwater buildings will be the norm. Flexible furniture and light-up walls could put pay to decorating the home, while cooks will print food in the kitchen.

Futuristic drones could take your whole house on holiday

We could be working for three days and attend meetings remotely via holograms to save time every week.

The Wonderful World of Tomorrow

Two Astronauts View Saturn From Titan's Surface

"Here's to the bright New Year, and a fond farewell to the old; here's to the things that are yet to come, and to the memories that we hold." ~ Author unknown

"Let us move on, and step out boldly, though it be into the night, and we can scarcely see the way." ~ Charles B. Newcomb

The New Year of 2015 promises to be as exhilarating as the previous year of 2014 for those of us at Far Future Horizons  as we continue to work towards the exploration and settlement of the exciting new frontiers of sea, space and to chart the human journey across time and space.

Far Future Horizons is all about exploration, discovery, and stepping forward to face future challenges boldly and decisively. The existential threats facing our global civilization are many but; we firmly believe that there are no limits to the growth and the future prosperity of the human species. Human inventiveness and ingenuity can help us surmount any problem or obstacle in our path. This is the message that this blog site hopes to convey to its readers in this New Year of 2015 and beyond.

So on behalf of all of us here at Far Future Horizons I invite you, dear readers, to step out boldly, though it be into the night, and we can scarcely see the way to the wonderful year ahead of 2015! Happy New Year One and All!

The theme of today’s five video features presents both a retrospective and prospective concerning “The Wonderful World of Tomorrow”.

The World of Tomorrow as Seen from the New York World’s Fairs

"Let us move on, and step out boldly, though it be into the night, and we can scarcely see the way." ~ Charles B. Newcomb

Today on Far Future Horizons we commemorate the anniversaries of two iconic grand expositions – The New York World’s Fair of 1939 which will be marking its seventy fifth anniversary on April 30th and the 1964/1965 New York World’s Fair which will be commemorating its golden anniversary on April 22nd, 2014.

In order to mark these two anniversaries we present three very special video features with the theme “The World of Tomorrow."

Far Future Horizons is all about exploration, discovery, and stepping forward to face future challenges boldly and decisively. The existential threats facing our global civilization are many but; we firmly believe that there were no limits to growth or the future prosperity of the human species. Human inventiveness and ingenuity can help us surmount any problem or obstacle in our path. This is the message we hope to continue to convey to our readers.

I invite you then, dear readers to "step out boldly, though it be into the night, and we can scarcely see the way "  to the wonderful world of tomorrow.

Revisiting the 1964/65 New York World's Fair

Today on Far Future Horizons we relive the sights and sounds of the 1964/65 New York World's Fair with two special newsreels from the period: an NBC TV Special from 1964 "A World's Fair Diary," with Edwin Newman and a detailed report presented by veteran reporter Lowell Thomas.

In a “World’s Fair Diary” Edwin Newman takes us on a first hand tour of many attractions featured in the fair. He tends more towards the off-the-beaten-path attractions more so than the mainstays, but he gets a great glimpse of what was a once-in-a-lifetime event.

Lowell Thomas

In our second video feature Thomas reports from the partially completed New York World's Fair.  Lowell Thomas also reported twenty five years earlier from the New York World’s Fair in 1939.

Arthur C Clarke Predicts the Future from Futurama

Today on Far Future Horizons we take a look at the future from the perspective of the 1964 -1965 World’s Fair.

In 1964, Arthur C. Clarke made some very interesting predictions about the future world we are currently living in now from the 1964 New York World's Fair General Motors Futurama exhibit.
The City of the Future

Today’s video clip of Arthur C Clarke comes from the highly acclaimed BBC documentary series Horizon from the episode "The Knowledge Explosion" first broadcast on 21st September, 1964.
