Living, Loving and Dying in Space

"Lovers in Space" - OUT OF THE CRADLE by Pamela Lee from Out of the Cradle; copyrighted material 1984. Many thanks Pam for your kind help.

Someday humanity will leave its planetary abode and will eventually embark on the grand enterprise of humanizing the high and final frontier of space. This will be a venture that will benefit humanity and transform it into a multi-planetary species. As humankind expands its presence beyond the confines of its single planet it will face high adventure, make new and exciting discoveries and confront many new challenges and dangers.

The Cosmos beckons and we must heed its call and truly become a spacefaring civilization and embark on a grand evolutionary step - the transformation of our species, Homo Sapiens into Homo Stellaris. But, during this evolutionary and cultural transformation it is my fondest hope that we retain at our core a very unique quality that must always be prized - our capacity to love and care for one another and bring new life in the void between the stars.

The Universe - Deep Space Disasters

Deep Space Disasters Aired: Tuesday November 11, 2008 In space travel there is a saying that the first 50 miles and the last 50 miles are the most dangerous. Explore the controlled explosion of launch, the fiery crucible of reentry and everything in between. See how a single spark inside a spacecraft or a micrometeoroid less than an inch wide hitting a space station can turn a routine mission into a lethal nightmare. As the missions become longer, venturing to Mars and beyond, the potential disasters will only become bigger. What would happen if a spacecraft ventured too close to a black hole or was hit by a gamma ray burst?

The Universe is available on DVD from Amazon.com and the History Channel’s online store.
