Today on Far Future Horizons I decided to
post the following feature documentary ~ 'GAIA
SELENE'.
This documentary outlines just the type of space program we need to
help solve many of our earth bound problems. A Space program that is both
politically and economically sustainable as well justifiable. There are two and
a half ways to save the Earth and two of them are on the Moon. The half measure
that remains for us on Earth is to create a society committed to conservation
and creating a Zero Waste Culture totally dedicated to recovering its reusable
resources.
A new
technological study reveals that by the year 2050 we will need three times as
much primary power and it will have to be three times as clean. There is no
earthly technology now on line, or capable of coming on line by the year 2050,
that can help solve our energy and environmental problems.
This is program very reminiscent of that outlined by the late Gerald K O'Neill's in his book 'The High Frontier: Human Colonies in Space’. O’Neill’s book emphasized the role of space colonies in building space based solar power satellites to provide earth with a safe, clean and plentiful supply of renewable energy.

THERE ARE TWO AND A
HALF WAYS TO SAVE THE EARTH;
TWO OF THEM ARE ON THE
MOON.
Earth Scientists, Space
Scientists, Futurists and Visionaries confront the major challenges facing us
as a species and threatening our home planet.
How will we feed, house
and employ ten billion humans by the year 2050?
What happens when the
oil runs out?
The dangers of nuclear
power and nuclear waste.
Our effect on the
environment, the health of the planet and our fellow creatures.
By 2050 we will need
three times as much power and it will have to be three times as clean.
There is no technology
now on line, or capable of coming on line by the year 2050, that can solve our
energy problem.
In the next hundred
years, there’s a one chance in four hundred and fifty-five of a species-ending
cosmic event.
But don’t worry.
We’ve developed Space
Technology. We’ve developed a way to turn a cosmic threat into an asset. When
we learn what we need to colonize the moon, we will be able to use that
knowledge to protect ourselves and our home planet.
GAIA SELENE offers
clear and do-able solutions to the crises facing us.
Space Solar Power;
clean and renewable, it could replace polluting fossil fuel plants.
Lunar Solar Power;
collectors crafted from lunar material could microwave power back to earth.
Power from Moon Dust;
Forty tons of 3Helium in Fusion Reactors could power the U. S for a year, and
would be worth 320 Billion Dollars.
We can and will do it.
We have already spent a trillion dollars on space technology. Now it is time to
build on what we started forty years ago.
It’s not rocket science
anymore.
We don’t need to invent
anything new. We can colonize the moon with current technology. In doing so, we
can save the earth.
How will we live and
work on the moon?
What it will be like to
fly on wings in the one-sixth lunar gravity?
Why we will live in
lavatubes under the surface.
How we can travel a
thousand miles an hour in maglev bullet trains.
Why the Moon is a
stepping stone to the Solar System, to nearby Stars, to the Future.
