Island of Lost Souls

Today on Far Future Horizons it gives us great pleasure to present the first and our most favourite film adaptation of  H. G. Wells’ 1896 novel The Island of Dr. Moreau -  the Island of Lost Souls.

Island of Lost Souls is a 1932 American science fiction horror film starring Charles Laughton, Richard Arlen, Leila Hyams, Bela Lugosi (star of the 1931 adaptation of Dracula) and Kathleen Burke as the Panther Woman. The film was directed by Erle C. Kenton and produced by Paramount Pictures from a script co-written by science fiction legend Philip Wylie (co-author of the novel When Worlds Collide published in 1933).

Both the book and movie are about an obsessed scientist who is secretly conducting surgical experiments on animals to turn them into human-like creatures on a remote island.

This film is also available on DVD from Amazon Books.
