The Death of the Oceans

Today on Far Future Horizons we present an exciting episode from the acclaimed BBC science documentary series “Horizon” entitled “The Death of the Oceans”. In today’s instalment of Horizon we join our host Sir David Attenborough as he takes us on an in depth scientific investigation concerning the negative impact human civilization is having on the world’s oceans.

Sir David Attenborough reveals the findings of one of the most ambitious scientific studies of our time - an investigation into what is happening to our oceans. He looks at whether it is too late to save their remarkable biodiversity.Horizon travels from the cold waters of the North Atlantic to the tropical waters of the Great Barrier Reef to meet the scientists who are transforming our understanding of this unique habitat. Attenborough explores some of the ways in which we are affecting marine life - from over-fishing to the acidification of sea water.

The film also uncovers the disturbing story of how shipping noise is deafening whales and dolphins, affecting their survival in the future.

Robert Ballard: Exploring the Ocean's Hidden Worlds

“We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time” ~  T.S. Eliot

Today we celebrate World Oceans Day on Far Future Horizons.

In this TED talk Ocean explorer Robert Ballard takes us on a mind-bending trip to hidden worlds underwater, where he and other researchers are finding unexpected life, resources, even new mountains. He makes a fabulous case for the serious exploration and mapping of the undersea realm of Aquatica.
