Dr. Sarah Parcak - How I Became a Space Archaeologist

Today on Far Future Horizons we join the search for – the Lost Cities of Egypt. According to archaeologists ninety nine percent of the magnificent wonders of Ancient Egypt have yet to be discovered.

But now, thanks to the pioneering work of Dr Sarah Parcak, that is about to change.


The first video feature for today is a TED talk presented Dr. Sarah Parcak which describes her own twist of fate and how she became a Space Archaeologist. And, our second video feature is an episode of the acclaimed Discovery Channel documentary series Curiosity: Egypt: What Lies Beneath? ; hosted by veteran actor Brendan Fraser.




According to archaeologists ninety nine percent of the magnificent wonders of Ancient Egypt have yet to be discovered. But now, thanks to the pioneering work of Dr Sarah Parcak, that is about to change. 



Dr. Sarah Parcak is an Archaeologist and founding Director of the Laboratory for Global Observation at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Parcak is a recognized expert in the use of remote sensing via satellite imagery analysis to detect archaeological sites, many of which were previously unknown. She is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, and 2012 TED Fellow. Sarah has written Satellite Remote Sensing for Archaeology (Routledge, 2009), the first methods book to ever appear on the subject of satellite archaeology.
