Today on Far Future Horizons it gives us great pleasure to present the TV Motion Picture – Without Warning which first aired on October 30th, 1994, the 56th anniversary of Orson Welles infamous "War of the Worlds" broadcast.
Without Warning is a TV movie featuring
veteran news anchor Sander Vanocur and reporter Bree Walker as themselves
covering a breaking news story of three meteor fragments crashing into the
Earth's northern hemisphere in October 1994. The film is presented mostly in
real time as if it were an actual breaking news event, complete with remote
reports from reporters. The executive producer was David L. Wolper, who
produced a number of mockumentary-style films from the 1960s onwards but is
best known as the producer of "Roots" and "Roots: The Next
Generations".
In order to avoid the sort of hysteria whipped up by
Orson Welles' "War of the Worlds" radio broadcast in 1938, several
well known actors were cast in the film, such as Jane Kaczmarek, Philip Baker Hall
and John de Lancie.
Without Warning
(1994) can be purchased on DVD from Amazon.com. The film was released on DVD on July 8, 2003, nearly nine years after its initial, and only, showing on CBS. However, it has since been shown outside the United States, such as the United Kingdom where it has been aired on Sci-Fi, minus the commercial break warnings.
