The Discovery of the Century

Artist's conception of the surface of Proxima Centauri b, depicted as an Earth-like planet.

After weeks of rumour and speculation Astronomers at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) have finally announced that they have indeed discovered a rocky, Earth-like planet orbiting the star Proxima Centauri.

Today on Far Future Horizons we join the astronomical community in jubilation for this momentous discovery of the closest exoplanet that could potentially harbour life outside our solar system.

Breakthrough Starshot interstellar probe Light Sail

This newly discovered alien planet, warmed by the light of a red dwarf star, sits just 4.24 light-years from our solar system. This exoplanet may very well prove to be the Astronomical discovery of the century.

Modern Marvels - E.T. Tech

Painting by Copyright © 1998-2014 Lynette R. Cook

Today on Far Future Horizons we present Modern Marvels ~ ET Tech which explores the technologies used in the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI) and Astrobiology.

Spirit Landing on Mars

These technologies have taken us to the planet Mars to sift its sands for life. And, have also led to development of sophisticated radio telescopes that help us sieve through the cosmic radio noise for signs of intelligent civilizations that share this awesome Cosmos with us.

How Do Aliens Think?

Let us imagine a Cosmos awash with life and sentient beings. What would these aliens look like? Could we communicate with them? But before we can even discuss the question of communicating with extraterrestrial beings we must answer another important question – How Do Aliens Think?

Today’s installment of “Through the Wormhole” hosted by Morgan Freeman explores this question.

The Search for Habitable Planets

Today on Far Future Horizons we go in search for habitable planets within our galaxy.

Thus far, in this great age of planet hunting, we
have glimpsed a diverse planetary menagerie, with giant planets in wide orbits around their parent stars, others that swing in so close they leave a comet-like tail, or molten rocky worlds emblazoned with oceans of lava.

Horizon - We Are the Aliens

Today on Far Future Horizons we look at the exciting possibility that terrestrial life may have had an extraterrestrial origin and that the Earth in its infancy was seeded by microbes from outer space through a process known as Panspermia.

Clouds of alien life forms are sweeping through outer space and infecting planets with life – it may not be as far-fetched as it sounds and may explain the origin of life on Earth if not the origin of life itself.

The Search for Habitable Worlds

Today on Far Future Horizons we go in search of habitable worlds within our galaxy.

Thus far, in this great age of planet hunting, we have yet to find anything like our solar system with rocky inner worlds in neat circular orbits, and evenly spaced Jovian gas giants on the periphery.

Instead, astronomers have glimpsed a diverse planetary menagerie, with giant planets in wide orbits around their parent stars, others that swing in so close they leave a comet-like tail, or molten rocky worlds emblazoned with oceans of lava.

Extreme Universe ~ Is Anyone Out There?

Today on Far Future Horizons we take a voyage through the Extreme Universe to answer the question – Is Anyone out There?

Do we inhabit a universe brimming over with life and sentient beings in search of their own origins and who like us wonder if they share this cosmos with others such as themselves?
