Everything and Nothing

Today on Far Future Horizons we present a two-part BBC documentary entitled “Everything and Nothing” which essentially deals with two of the deepest and perplexing questions confronting science today – what is everything, and what is nothing?

In these two epic, surreal and mind-expanding episodes, Professor Jim Al-Khalili searches for an answer to these questions as he explores the true size and shape of the universe and delves into the amazing science behind apparent nothingness.
The first part, “Everything”, we set out with Professor Al-Khalili to discover what the universe might actually look like. The journey takes him from the distant past to the boundaries of the known universe.

Is The Universe Alive?

Today on Far Future Horizons we present the third episode of the third season of Morgan Freeman’s Through the Wormhole to explore the possibility that our Cosmos may be alive and self-aware - a  Superorganism of sorts.

Could our universe's collection of stars, galaxies, and black holes follow the same rules of existence as biological life? The cosmos itself may be a superorganism, a collection of separate bodies that act like a single being — just like ants in a colony.

One scientist believes cities are superorganisms and perhaps our universe is a super-scaled up version of these metropolises.

From Here to Infinity

Today on Far Future Horizons we honor Patrick Stewart on his Seventy-fifth birthday by  joining him on a Starship of the imagination that will take us on a voyage – From Here to Infinity.

Will the Universe end with a bang, or a whimper? Horizon traces the discovery of a dark energy, a mysterious force that may explain how everything will end one day.

Will the Universe live forever? Well I’d guess you’d have to define what life meant. Will the universe cease to exist or will it exist in another form – in which case has it really died? The Universe is currently expanding into itself, before anyone asks what is it expanding into), instead of re-collapsing into a big crunch, negative gravity (in all its variety of names) would appear to be the stronger influence and is making a crunch unlikely.
